Elk Grove, CA – (March 4, 2020). In the spirit of NASCAR Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick and Gander RV and Outdoors CEO Marcus Lemonis putting up a $100,000 bounty to any Cup Series driver who can beat Kyle Busch in one of four upcoming NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series races, Cycleland Speedway has decided to put up a $6,000 bounty on Kyle Larson, the two time defending champion of his own race, Kyle Larson’s Outlaw Kart Showcase set for June 8 and 9.
The Ganders Truck bounty, which started innocently enough by Larson tweeting three cherries – for cherry picking races – at Busch in response to a NASCAR tweet asking fans to congratulate the defending Cup Series champion on his Gander Truck win recently at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, has created a buzz in the NASCAR community, especially after Larson accepted the $100k challenge to take on Busch at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 20.
Although the Elk Grove, Calif., native’s tweet was interpreted by Harvick as disrespecting Busch, the younger Kyle really meant it as a statement to fans who do the same to him when he wins a race in Sprint Cars, Midgets, or Outlaw Karts. Before he could relay that to Harvick, the Gander Trucks bounty became reality in a matter of minutes. With Harvick putting up $50,000, which prompted Lemonis to match it with another $50k, the idea was set in motion, with the possibility of Larson being the biggest beneficiary.
With Larson being the two-time defending champion of the Outlaw Kart Showcase, Cycleland Speedway promoter Lowell Moural has decided to up the ante $6,000 by placing a bounty on the Cup Series star for the Open Division drivers to try to collect in the prestigious karting event. Unlike Harvick’s requirement for the Gander Trucks bounty that it must be a full-time Cup Series driver that beats Busch, Moural has announced that any driver is eligible to collect the bounty by beating Larson. The Showcase is already the highest paying Outlaw Kart race at $6,000-to-win for the Open Division A-main, the total will now be
$12,000 to anyone who can dethrone Larson.
“I thought the idea of a bounty by Harvick was a great way to bring attention to the Gander Truck Series and all their drivers,” said Moural. “Kyle’s dad Mike wondered if there was a way we could do something similar by placing a bounty on Kyle. So that’s what we’ve decided to do. Kyle’s only going to get the standard $6,000 payout if he wins, but if anyone else wins their take will be $12,000. The Showcase is already the highest paying race in Outlaw Karts, and by doubling that for this year’s event, we hope to generate a lot of attention and attract more Outlaw Kart drivers nationwide to the race.”
